Stephen spent time with the Executive Team and our School architects observing our learning spaces and the teaching and learning happening within them. He also worked with a group of staff to share his knowledge and research about the way in which teachers can best facilitate learning through the use of physical space. It was very affirming to hear from Stephen that he considers us at the leading edge in terms of contemporary building design for learning and for the use of space to facilitate the best possible outcomes for students. We will be using the knowledge Stephen shared with us today to develop even more dynamic learning experiences for our girls.
Yesterday, I enjoyed spending the day at Moonee Valley with the Year 6 girls at their leadership training day. The girls participated in the day with great enthusiasm and enjoyed the workshops facilitated by past students, current Year 12 Prefects and members of staff. I observed some leadership in action at the Year 6 House Athletics Carnival last week and I congratulate every girl who participated in this wonderful event.
There was also enthusiastic participation in the inaugural Autumn Band Festival last night where students from our very youngest trombonists, to our most accomplished saxophonists showcased their talents. The Friends of Music fundraiser for new timpani was launched at this event and I encourage all families to support this very worthwhile project.
During the week I attended a meeting at the Moonee Valley Council where the Mayor met with representatives from Lowther Hall, PEGS and St Columba’s to discuss the parking and transportation challenges in the area. The efforts that our school has made to ease traffic congestion and improve parking are appreciated by Council and we will continue to work together to make the situation as workable as possible. Please be aware that increased enforcement of parking regulations by the local council is expected in the coming months.
Preparations are now well underway for our Easter events and services next week and it is delightful to walk through the School and hear the Easter melodies emanating from various rooms! Before then, of course we have Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day in Junior School tomorrow and our Relay for Life participation over the weekend. I look forward to seeing many members of the School community at these events.
