You may have seen our new advertising campaign recently in the Moonee Valley Leader newspaper! The advert features the School’s new branding design and tag line “all about the girl”, and is intended to highlight Lowther Hall’s excellent location within Essendon and its proximity to transport links.

​Today there have been a number of special events across the school with Year 9s returning from their adventures in Central Australia and Vietnam, Year 11s enjoying the second day of their leadership camp, Years 8 and 10 participating in a special cross-age program and Year 5s taking part in the Maths Games Day.

Year 4 student Tayla Soch has been awarded the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority award ‘Junior Triple Zero Hero’ at their 12th annual ceremony this week, for her outstanding effort when dialling 000 to save her mum.

There have been exciting results in the past week in our Senior School Sports Department. Grant House students Alice, Olivia, Solange, Jessica, Yunjia and Zoe have won the all-female section of the Victorian Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships, and our Senior School Cross Country team have won their division at the GSV Cross Country Championship Carnival.

Exciting news for Year 11 student Ashleigh after she won last night’s ‘battle round’ on Channel 9’s ‘The Voice’ to stay on Team Jessie. Ashleigh’s moving performance of Disney’s ‘Colours of the Wind’ with fellow contestant Carmel Rodrigues received a standing ovation from all four coaches.

​Empathy is a highly valuable human quality but one which is not always straightforward for young people to develop. In Junior School this week at Together on Friday we will be exploring ways to practise seeing things from someone else’s perspective and considering another’s view. Developing the capacity for empathy is a shared responsibility of parents and staff and we appreciate everything that families do to assist girls to see various situations from the viewpoint of another, or to help them understand how another person might be feeling in a particular situation. One way in which we can assist young people to build their empathic skills is through assisting them to identify their own feelings so that they are better equipped to identify the feelings of others.
